  • Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP)

GrIDS team is composed of environmental planners, foresters, and spatial modelers that can assist LGUs in the drafting or updating of their Comprehensive Land Use Plan with the incorporation of Geographic Information System.  As a company that specializes in the use of this tool and related technologies, we can ensure that this will be maximized all throughout the planning process. To highlight, this includes data inventory, storage and management, creation of thematic layers ready for analysis, spatial analysis and interpretation. We can also conduct GIS capacity building activities to ensure the continuity of the CLUP updating.

  • Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA)

In line with our mission to help map better decisions, and in support of the national government’s mandate to LGUs to integrate disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in the local plans, our team created a workflow that incorporates GIS in all possible entry-points in the CDRA process. With this workflow, LGUs can be guided in their assessment, making the process more efficient with GIS.

  • Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA)

Agriculture is one of the most affected sectors whenever natural calamities happen. While the events may be unpredictable, we believe that damages can be reduced or minimized through proactive planning specifically at the municipal level. Knowing where the vulnerable areas are located is the first step in creating climate-resilient agri-fisheries communities.

Having been able to conduct Climate-Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) in seven provinces in the country, gathering different insights from LGUs’ experiences, and planning with the local stakeholders, our team was able to assist the Department of Agriculture in identifying vulnerable agriculture areas that need to be prioritized for intervention.

  • Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP)

One of the important aspects of the FLUP is the inclusion of the local community in the planning process as its ultimate goal is to make them stewards of the forests. When it comes to forest land use management, Participatory GIS is one of the approaches that we use to encourage information exchange with the locals. Such a process enriches the discussion, providing an interactive participation and effective communication. More so, it gives importance to the value of local knowledge during planning. This approach, together with the team’s robust experience in forestry and environmental planning, can give assurance to our clients that the process will be inclusive, participatory, and built on the principles of resource management.

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

For studies that require inputs from interdisciplinary fields, GrIDS taps its pool of experts and includes them onboard to lead the assessments as it may be applicable to their field of expertise. Through the results, we remain true to our core values in bringing out unbiased findings and recommending evidence-based solutions for the possible environmental impacts of a certain project. Furthermore, we give equal importance to the communities that may be affected, and consider the EIA report not just for the proponent’s sole compliance but topmost intended for the welfare of the concerned communities.

  • Feasibility Study (FS)

For any planned development, it is always practical to consider a feasibility study first. Aside from saving time and money, conducting such prior to development can also give valuable insights on the possible threats to the natural and social environment a project may have. The application of spatial analysis in the feasibility study can even hasten the process since it allows to store, manipulate, analyze, and display data digitally.

  • Suitability Analysis

Suitability analysis has various applications in different industries depending on the needs of the stakeholders. Whatever the need may be, our team can help individuals, organizations, or institutions to find the best suitable areas for their planned development or intervention, whether finding the strategic location for a business, disaster or fire response unit, landfill site selection, land use analysis, crop suitability, and more.

  • Biodiversity Monitoring System

While we all agree that biodiversity is vital to ecological balance, we cannot deny the fact that we often lack systems to track important aspects that will give us a clear picture of the current status and trends. Part of our workflows is to establish metric systems specifically designed to monitor progress for effective biodiversity conservation and resource management. Be familiarized with the basic concepts and theories of GIS through our Beginners’ Course. Designed from a beginner’s point-of-view, this course provides a step-by-step guide on the fundamental GIS operations that will definitely be useful in your GIS-upskilling journey. With the climate crisis demanding more urgent actions, our team crafted disaster risk-centered training designs that will help our learners perform spatial analysis of existing climate-induced hazards in order to locate vulnerable areas and populations for prioritizing response.

Covering exercises on watershed physical characterization and visualization, this course provides the foundational steps in watershed planning and management with the aid of GIS and remote sensing. Ready to learn remote sensing? Classifying land cover is one of the most common remote sensing applications and its outputs can serve as baseline information that is significant in different environmental analyses. In this course, you will be introduced to the basic concepts of remote sensing, get familiarized with remotely-sensed data, and be guided step-by-step in acquiring satellite images, pre-processing, and visualization through the application of different spectral indices.

Improve your analytical skills with this upgraded version of the Land Cover Classification course. With the incorporation of change detection analysis, participants will be able to identify when and where land cover changes happened, explore possible factors that contribute to the cause, thereby understanding the condition of a study area. This course is useful for environmental planners as it takes into account the past developments to define the current situation and project different future scenarios of proposed developments.

Be one step ahead of the game! Google Earth Engine is one of the recent geospatial technology advancements for performing cloud-based environmental data analyses. Through this course, you will be given a brief overview of Earth Engine Code Editor and be familiarized with codes and scripts in performing different spatial analyses.

Learn to process drone-captured images and turn these into a three-dimensional model of your study sites. Processed outputs are helpful in visualizing current situations and in assisting planners in monitoring activities for possible interventions needed.

Knowing the extent and depth of floodwater is not only significant in disaster risk reduction and management but can also aid planners in comprehensive land-use planning — a proactive way of combating the future threats of the climate crisis to communities and local resources. With our course on flood modeling, we will guide you in creating a 3D flood model that will help you visualize flood-affected at varying depths, helping you to make informed decisions.

  • Landslide Modeling

In support of the DILG’s mandate on mainstreaming climate change adaptation and mitigation in local plans, our team designed this GIS-centered course on Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA). The incorporation of geographic information systems in performing CDRA will enable efficient spatial data collection because GIS is a great platform to collect, store, manage, and analyze data. More so, the fact that it is a vulnerability study, the use of maps will offer better visualizations of the extent of hazard-prone areas, thereby making informed decisions in CLUP formulation.

  • CRVA

Sound decision-making is anchored on evidence-based research. Understanding the vulnerabilities of a certain sector to climate risks is essential to prioritizing areas for inventions. With this course, we’ll help you get familiarized with the whole vulnerability assessment process: from determining exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity, up to identifying and prioritizing areas.

  • CBA

Complementing the results of the CRVA, this training aims to assess which climate-resilient agricultural (CRA) practices would be most profitable for cities/municipalities. We highly encourage LGUs to undertake this activity together with CRVA since investment decisions are crucial to their adaptive capacity.
