Geographic Information System (GIS) Basic and Advanced

The Basic and Advanced Geographic Information Systems Training is developed for professionals and students who are interested to either jumpstart their career in the field of GIS or simply wanted to upskill and be abreast with current developments in mapping and use of GIS.

As a two-day event, GIS training is packed with hands-on experience-based and industry-relevant information that is definitely made easier to follow and complete. The training includes an assessment that leads to a GRIDS certificate or a QGIS-verified certificate.

Lester Ryan P. Mojica is a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) Specialist with expertise in environmental planning and management. He is knowledgeable in LiDAR Mapping, Google Earth Engine processing and object-based image analysis (OBIA) classification using commercial and open-source software.

As an environmental planner, his current research interests involve the use and application of remote sensing technologies in understanding the dynamics and processes undergoing in natural and social environments. This includes land cover change detection and analysis, climate risks vulnerability assessment, scenario modeling and prediction, and spatial health and epidemiology. Since 2014, he has been involved in various research projects concerning different environmental studies.

As the current company secretary of Geographic Innovations for Development Solutions, Inc. (GRIDS, Inc.), his main task is focused on the formulation of project proposals anchored to different client needs. He also leads the facilitation of the capacity-building activities of the firm.

Engr. Buling has been in the research sector as the head of the mapping department of the environmental consultancy firm. He was also in the private sector as a Field Engineer of Tiaong Geothermal Power Corporation. During this time, he had gained extensive experience in mapping and general engineering office practice.

Upon returning to his Hometown in Albay, he became a teacher at DepEd and a part-time Instructor at San Jose Community College. Despite his love for teaching, he has not stopped being a part-time Engineering Consultant.

Jayson Arizapa is a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) practitioner whose main interest is on satellite remote sensing and its application to forestry and natural resources management, and disaster risk reduction and management. As a professional, he has been involved as a researcher in projects focusing on flood and landslide modelling. He has also served as a resource person in various trainings and seminars on GIS/RS for students and professionals.

Outside his professional work, Mr. Arizapa has found interest learning about the financial market.

Hector Brizuela, EnP. is a university faculty in Manila, Philippines. Aside from instruction, he serves as Strategic Communications Partner at Geographic Innovations and Development Solutions, Inc. (GRIDS, Inc.). For the past 10 years, he’s been involved in multiple development planning projects including in the fields of tourism, community disaster resilience, energy, and policy development.
Hector is a registered and licensed Environmental Planner and a trained Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner certified by DOLE-Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC).

Mr. Bragais is a geographic information system (GIS) practitioner in fields of environmental science and disaster risk reduction and management. (GrIDS), a registered environmental consultancy firm that aims to provide scientifically-based decisions using GIS.

Thru GrIDS, he provides capacity building training for local government units, academe, students, researchers, and all interested professionals to mainstream the application of GIS to the climate change adaptation efforts in the Philippines.
